S.Pellegrino brings the Live in Italian concept to London with an unexpected terroir experience
London, April 28th 2014 – On the day of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants announcement, S.Pellegrino invited the world’s most influential restaurateurs, finest chefs and international media representatives to celebrate the art of fine food. It was a unique opportunity to experience the essence of the brand, Live in Italian: appreciating togetherness, experiencing food as a chance to meet up and share emotions and savouring the unique experience of socializing with taste and elegance. The Italian way of fully appreciating the pleasure of the simple, yet beautiful things in life.
The Italian Cultural Institute of London was the perfect venue for the event, featuring a tasting menu dedicated to the excellent products that embody the Made in Italy label and organized with the support of Piaceri D’Italia. Five exceptional professionals presented their unique take on these products: Tiziano Vudafieri (architect), Diego Rigatti (lawyer), Luciana Delle Donne (CEO of a non-profit company), Mirko Ian de Marinis (former bond trader) and Giacomo Bretzel (photographer). This unusual choice brought together representatives of the most disparate fields with one thing in common – a true passion for fine food and a profound sense of culture, which they were glad to share with others on this great occasion.
Two special ingredients went into the making of this event. The first was a rich selection of products of excellence from the Italian terroir that bring rich, unique traditions to life – cured meats, cheeses, vinegars, wines, oils, pastas and breads – and of course the fine dining waters known to complement each other perfectly on the tables of the most renowned restaurants in the world, naturally enhancing the flavours of the most refined food and wine with which they are served, S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna.
The other key ingredient was the passion for the art of fine food, as expressed by these five talents in the spirit of S.Pellegrino waters. Each of the speakers accompanied guests on a journey of discovery, using their own experience and personal background to express each product’s unique qualities and deep ties with the territory.
Architect Tiziano Vudafieri revealed to guests some of the most unique Italian cured meats, while Lawyer Diego Rigatti led guests on a discovery of cheeses and Luciana Delle Donne, CEO of “Officina Creativa” a non-profit company, showed the Italian pasta. Mirko Ian de Marinis, former bond trader, told the traditions of the vinegars and then Giacomo Bretzel, photographer, shared his experience about oils.
This experience attested once more to the important role that S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna play across the globe as ambassadors of the Italian style and art of living and as supporters of the gourmet food and fine wine culture.
, architect, born in 1958, graduated in Venice in 1985. In 1994, after an important experience as designer, consultant, and partner in design offices such as Sottsass Associati and Studio Cibic & Partners, he opened Vudafieri Saverino Partners, specialized in architectural and corporate design projects. Since 2000, a significant part of the firm’s activity has been devoted to worldwide retail design Concepts for important luxury fashion brands. In January 2012 Vudafieri Saverino Partners opened its Shanghai – based Company. An eclectic, multi-disciplinary approach to life and work has always been Tiziano Vudafieri’s lifestyle. A contemporary art lover and collector, he is a food passionate and a non-professional cook, interested in a modern, unadorned talian cuisine based on the excellence of the Italian products. Since 2007, he collaborates to Davide Paolini’s Sole 24 Ore Guida dei Ristoranti d’Italia, and with a group of friends and partners he founded Food.different and Trade.different, food and wine consultancy companies. With these companies, he opened three restaurants in Milano: Pisacco, DRY Cocktail&Pizza (with Food.different) and later Turbigo (with Trade.different), all of them based on affordable, high quality, contemporary Italian cuisine. Free from the classic restaurant patterns, the three restaurants provide great food, an informal but accurate service embedded in a “fresh” contemporary design and are, since nearly two years, among the coolest places in town.
, lawyer, born in 1965, took his Law degree with honours in Bologna, in 1989. He has been partner in several national and international firms, recently joining the UK origin firm Osborne Clarke specialising in IP, IT, life sciences and data protection. He became an AIS Professional sommelier in 1998, attended several professional cooking courses and classes; he is an avid food, wine and restaurant seeker and traveller; contributes as food critic to Davide Paolini’s Sole 24 Ore Guida dei Ristoranti d’Italia since 2007. With a group of friends and partners (a Michelin starred chef, an F&B manager with international experience, and a famous architect) Diego Rigatti founded Food.different, a food and wine consultancy company that, with the support of some friends, since 2012 has opened two highly successful restaurants in Milano (Pisacco and DRY Cocktail&Pizza). In a different formation, he established a wine import and merchant company, Trade.different, that last fall opened on the Milanese Naviglio Grande the contemporary bistrot Turbigo, and plans to launch new initiatives in the food and wine business. In the spare time (if any), he is an high-eng amateur photographer, and runs and rides bicycles as much as he can to be able to fully satisfy his insatiable curiosity and appetite for great food and wines.
Luciana Delle Donne
, ex Top Manager of innovative channels in bank. She has created the first multichannel virtual bank in Italy: “Banca 121”. After 20 years as senior Business Executive with a wealth of experience in Banking, she has changed her life and currently involved as social entrepreneur. But the two different life have a constant: the research for innovation, technological in the first one and social in the second.Luciana is now the CEO of “Officina Creativa” a non-profit company involved in the reintegration of disadvantaged people, prisoners in particular. With hers capacity has given rise to new models of sustainable development and thanks to the creation of the brands “Made in Carcere” and “2nd Chance”. It’s not only about products but is a nice story to tell about Women, with a new philosophy and Life style. She gives to prisoners another chance and provides a second life to objects, fabrics, materials and, the most important , to people. Her winning idea was to promote ethical customizable packaging and gadgets (Events, Home and Food, Techno and fashion). With these products “help to help” (Many non profit Organization use these products for fundraising ). Another important success factor is the originality of the products produced, clever, smart and even patentable. She offers a job opportunity and a salary for disadvantaged and often invisible, giving a new dignity to the prisoners and their family, breaking the chain of fatal destiny. The strongest think is the social impact that social entrepreneur can generate. For this reasons her dream is to transform the GNP into HNP to change the measure of performances in a new method of measurement: “the Happiness”.
Mirko de Marinis
was born in Milan in 1984 to an Italian father and an Austrian mother. He spent his childhood in Milan, where he dabbled in cooking over the years, learning different techniques, and gradually discovering the world of wines, grape varieties and the many derivative products, including the traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena. After earning a Bachelor’s degree in economics in Milan, he moved to Amsterdam to pursue a Master’s degree in monetary economics. Throughout his college career, he worked in catering, putting him once again in contact with food. His first job involved a role in risk management in Milan. He then moved to a town in Switzerland between Lugano and Geneva, where he lives to this day. Fabio Bonini has been his long-time mentor in the food sector, especially when it comes to vinegars. De Marinis deals with the ‘popularization’ of the traditions and production methods surrounding the traditional balsamic vinegar of Modena, via marketing, public relations and sales. He deals with vinegar producers holistically, and he and Bonini are constantly in search of new markets, chefs and business opportunities, particularly abroad – from Japan to Florida – but also domestically – from Naples to Trento.

Montemagno is a small village which hangs from the Pisan hills, in the heart of north-eastern Tuscany. From here is produced Eredi Carlo Naldini’s extravirgin olive oil. Carlo Naldini was a nature-loving lawyer, passionate about his Tuscan grounds. He particularily enjoyed making oil for his family and himself. Carlo, also known as Nonno Barba due to his enourmous beard, was Giacomo’s grand father. Giacomo Bretzel, appart from being the reporter of many international magazines, such as Vanity Fair America, Vanity Fair Italy and Figaro Madame, also cultivates these olive trees just as Nonno Barba had wanted, together with his sister Francesca. With few but carefully chosen cultivar, and it’s unique artichoacky taste, this olive oil is, thanks to it’s oranoleptic proprieties, a true nectar of life. Today, Giacomo hand-picks the olives with the ancient techniques of a century ago, by himself and helped by close passionate friends. This oil, already subject of a fotografic exhibition at the Grande Epicerie of the Bon Marché and at the Galeries Lafayette is sold in few and specific places around the globe.
