NESTLÉ WATERS OPENS FACTORY IN CORUCHE (PORTUGAL)
Paris, July 9, 2009
Nestlé Waters Direct today opened a state-of-the-art Home & Office Delivery water bottling factory in Coruche (Portugal). The factory will produce large bottles of 11 and 18.9 litres of water. The investment in Coruche of more than 7 million euros will allow Nestlé Waters Direct to continue its growth in the Portuguese Home & Office Delivery (HOD) market, in which it already holds a leading position. Present at today’s opening were, among others, Dr Jaime Silva, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Rudolf Schaller, Swiss Ambassador to Portugal and Nestlé Waters CEO John J. Harris.
The facility benefits from the most up-to-date technology and has obtained the ISO 14001 Environment certificate. With a total area of 4,000 m2, the new factory will produce 1,300 large bottles of water per hour and create 50 direct and indirect jobs. The facility also includes a distribution centre and is the central warehouse for the Portuguese market.
Nestlé Waters selected Coruche for the quality of its water, its natural forested environment as well as for its geographical location close to Lisbon. Nestlé Waters is working closely with stakeholders in the Coruche region to develop initiatives for water resource and land preservation. This, and the local job creation, reflects Nestlé’s commitment to creating shared value, an important component of Nestlé’s business philosophy.
Nestlé Waters Direct Portugal, leader in the Portuguese HOD market, employs 200 people and markets the natural spring water brand Nestlé Selda.
