America’s leading spring water brand announced today that it has started transitioning its packaging to recycled plastic (rPET), and plans to be the first major bottled water brand in the US to reach 100% recycled plastic across its still water portfolio by 2021.
This month, the brand’s 1-liter bottles will begin being made using 100% rPET. In April, the brand launched a premium offering, Poland Spring® ORIGIN in 900mL bottles, which are also made entirely of recycled plastic.

Evart, Michigan – May 8, 2019 – At the request of Nestlé Waters North America (NWNA), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has begun monitoring, collecting, and publishing surface water and groundwater data near NWNA’s White Pine Springs site in Osceola Township, Michigan. The USGS is conducting the data collection through a joint funding agreement with NWNA and is being coordinated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The White Pine Springs site is one of the spring sources used to produce NWNA’s Ice Mountain® Brand 100% Natural Spring Water.

Nestlé Waters is joining Carbios, L’Oreal, PepsiCo and Suntory Beverage & Food Europe (SBFE) to bring enhanced recycling technology designed and developed by CARBIOS to market on an industrial scale.
CARBIOS has developed an innovative process that breaks down PET plastic waste into its original components, which can be used to produce high quality PET plastic, equivalent to virgin PET. This proprietary technology can pave the way for 100% recycled PET content in new products and offers the potential to recycle PET plastics repeatedly.

The DFR Award is ISRI’s most prestigious award given annually to the most innovative contribution to products designed with recycling in mind. Nestlé Waters has received the award specifically for the design of its Nestlé® Pure Life® 700ml bottle made from 100 percent recycled PET plastic (r-PET).

Knowledge sharing is part of our approach to sustainable, inclusive water management. Hence, the company is holding sharing sessions as well as building closer links to local communities. The open houses also contribute to Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification of the company's sites. We became the first company in Thailand to receive Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification for the water stewardship work done at our Ayutthaya factory. This achievement is part of Nestlé Waters’ global commitment to certify all our factories to the international AWS standard by 2025.
We have launched a new train line connecting the Perrier factory at Vergèze (South of France) to the port of Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille. The initiative is part of the company’s sustainability strategy and the French government’s low carbon policy. The 100-kilometer train line is expected to reduce the Perrier’s greenhouse gas emissions by around 2500 tons of CO2 annually. The daily train of 54 containers will transport about 13,500 containers of Perrier per year.
Sanpellegrino, Nestlé Waters’ Italian subsidiary and leader in its category, will invest €70 million over the next three years with the aim of making Acqua Panna Nestlé’s premium still water brand worldwide. Acqua Panna, together with S.Pellegrino, is the gold standard in international gastronomy.
