Gazzetta MarathOne and our Italian natural mineral water brand Levissima have organized a 24-hour virtual marathon to promote recycling and the reuse of plastic bottles. To show their support, online participants ‘ran’ a total of 47,000 kilometers. Runners from Milan won the race by completing a combined 2,757 km.
As the event’s "Regeneration" partner, Levissima pledged to recycle one plastic bottle for every kilometer completed. Levissima will also donate a fitness area made from recycled plastic and sustainable materials to the city of Milan, in line with the Regeneration project’s Recycle, Regenerate, Reuse principle.
This project is part of Levissima and Nestlé Waters’ sustainability roadmap and encourages people to understand that plastic bottles can be a new resource rather than waste. Upcoming measures include using 100% recyclable PET and 30% of recycled plastic in its entire product range, using rail to transport 40% of its mineral water, and introducing vehicles running on the less-polluting liquid natural gas (LNG) fuel.
