S.Pellegrino was discovered in the 12th century, flowing from natural springs within the Italian Alps. Its signature taste is created through a natural filtration process during its 30-year journey through the rocks of the Alps.
The water was first bottled in 1899, in the small village of San Pellegrino, close to the city of Bergamo (Lombardy). The S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 competition
Fast-forward to the 21st Century, and it was only fitting that S.Pellegrino, with its heritage in world gastronomy, introduced for the first time ever the S.Pellegrino Young Chef, last year, a one-of-its-kind culinary competition that recognized leading young chefs worldwide. The competition drew more than 3,000 applicants from 191 countries.
Today, the S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 competition is back to once again search for the best young culinary talent worldwide. Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, S.Pellegrino Young Chef brings together contestants from 20 regions across the globe, for the chance to compete for the coveted S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 title.
The brand invites chef contestants, 30 years of age or younger, who hold the position of a sous chef, chef de cuisine, or chef de partie to send their applications online. ALMA, the world’s leading international educational and training center for Italian cuisine, selects up to 10 semi-finalists for each of the 20 regional competitions based on the online submissions. From there, semi-finalists compete in front of regional juries of acclaimed chefs.
One winner from each region will continue on to participate in the Grand Finale Event in Milan in October, where an elite group of world-renowned chefs, regarded as the Seven Sages, will serve as the judging panel.
“Dinner among the Stars”
In May, S.Pellegrino Young Chef 2016 crowned France’s finalist Shintaro Awa, sous-chef for one of Paris’s gastronomy temples (restaurant Epicure at Hotel Bristol), who will continue to the global challenge in Milan.
S.Pellegrino gave foodies a preview of the French young chef’s talent on May 19. The brand hosted a unique dining experience called “Dinner among the Stars” where the famous 200-foot-high Ferris wheel in Paris, La Grande Roue, was transformed into a sky-high pop-up restaurant for about 400 adventurous fine dining guests. The event was made accessible to the general public, on a first-come, first-served basis, after signing up online.
The French young chef, alongside his competition mentor, Yannick Alléno, a Michelin-starred French chef, both concocted their dishes in a pop-up kitchen, specially installed at the foot of the wheel, and served them to the lucky diners riding in the Ferris wheel’s 48 cabins. The guests indulged in the gastronomy menu combined with the stunning view of the “city of lights” at night, from above!
Partnership with the Michelin Guide France 2016
S.Pellegrino is so connected to gastronomy that, this year, the brand signed a partnership with the Michelin Guide France 2016.
Michelin Guides are the world top gastronomy guides and have been the arbiters of haute cuisine, with their world-renowned star system and ratings done by a team of highly experienced anonymous inspectors, for over a century.
The partnership with the Michelin Guide France 2016 began on February 1st, the most anticipated day of the year for chefs and key players of the culinary world across France, during the awards ceremony that revealed this year’s new stars for France’s restaurants.
For the 3 year in a row, S.PELLEGRINO edited a unique guide in partnership with Michelin dedicated to the 596 starred French restaurants in 2016. This guide will be offered to consumers through various activations.
