Micro-plastics can be found everywhere, including in the air we breathe, the clothes we wear, the food we eat and the water we drink. Micro-plastics are part of the broader problem of plastic waste, which is one of the major sustainability challenges society is facing today.
Because the safety and quality of our products are our highest priorities, we have been testing our products for the presence of micro-plastics since 2015, using state-of-the-art devices and techniques. In 2018, we started using a more sophisticated, state-of-the art testing methodology that combines the use of an electronic microscope and micro Raman spectroscopy analysis, allowing us to detect particles as small as 5 microns.
To date, this extensive testing has not detected micro-plastics in our plastic bottles beyond trace level. With such a minute amount of micro-plastics detected by our testing, it is not possible to determine if these traces are intrinsic to our bottled water operations or merely the result of cross-contamination from the lab environment.
We have been sharing our expertise and we are collaborating with the scientific community to advance understanding on the topic.
