“An education based on the respect and protection of our planet must be promoted especially to children, the generation of the future” those are the words of Stefano Agostini, President and CEO of the Sanpellegrino Group, which is engaged in educational activities in order to raise awareness among Italian children about some water issues such as good and healthy consumption, or recycling.
In this light, the group (in cooperation with ASIA Napoli) launched the third edition of the project ‘Raccogli la plastica, semina il futuro’ (Collect plastic, sow the future) won by the Istituto Comprensivo 71° Aganoor Marconi primary school in May.
108 primary schools from the Campania, Lombardy and Piedmont regions participated to this edition. The pupils collected more than 1.5 million plastic bottles between October and December 2014, which made a total of approximately 41 tons of PET collected by the schools from the 3 cities involved.
To provide a better idea of just how remarkable the collection figures of this third edition are, notice that it would be possible to produce 60,000 fleece blankets or 50,000 fleece sweaters with the plastic collected.
Through this initiative the children were truly able to learn about the potential of PET, and how to correctly manage it as a resource.
