Nestlé Values & Principles

“I want to create an environment where people have the opportunity to express themselves”

John J. Harris Chairman and CEO Nestlé Waters

Nestlé is not like other companies. We have a unique set of values and guiding principles that have been built up over time. Nestlé’s Corporate Business, Management & Leadership Principles describe the way that people throughout the Nestlé Group interact with one another day by day.

We believe in people rather than systems

We are committed to creating value for our shareholders but we won’t favour quick-wins at the expense of long-term business development

We are committed to continuous improvement

Above all, we are pragmatic

Nestlé Waters' mindset is based on these principles and is reflected constantly through our business dealings and the commitment we attach in developping our employees.

  • High performing people

    High performing people

Our employees’ contribution plays a strong role in acting as change catalysts for the whole organisation. Challenging the status quo, anticipating future opportunities, continuously finding sustainable improvements—these are the ways in which Nestlé Waters people set themselves apart. It is their commitment and engagement which fuel the entrepreneurial spirit that you will find in all our operations worldwide. While the company contributes the top-line business strategy and sets in place the processes and resources for achieving them, we rely on the expertise and ingenuity of our people to bring the business to life.

  • Constant improvement

    Constant improvement

While each of us brings to the work a unique combination of skills and perspectives, all employees are given the opportunity to grow to their full potential. In all development at Nestlé Waters, managers play the critical role. We expect managers to lead the conversations with their people on both performance and development, and we review this annually with them in a talent review process. Nestlé has always invested a great deal of time and money in developing people; it’s one of the distinct values that has contributed to Nestlé’s continued success.

  • Trust & Respect

    Trust & Respect

Nestlé Waters’ has developed its business largely through acquisitions and the partnerships we have created throughout the years in countries all over the world. Our growth is largely due to the successful relationships founded on trust and respect for basic human values, mindset and behaviour, for our employees’ work-life balance, for cultural diversity, for natural resources and the environment. These values go beyond the borders of our company. We work with local communities, schools and government bodies to ensure that we develop longstanding relationships and contribute to creating value in the communities wherever Nestlé Waters is implanted. Furthermore, our consumers make a preferred choice which is driven by trust. They trust in our company to offer them a safe and high quality vital product.

  • Honesty & Integrity

    Honesty & Integrity

Our Group is built on strong work ethics and this is reflected in the way our employees take up challenges working together to reach a common goal. This often leads to strong relationships being created naturally between them because they are based on integrity and honesty. It goes without saying that these values imply equitable HR management, throughout principles and processes, for all our employees. We are proud to say that it is our employees’ commitment to the company and their ability to apply the Nestlé Management & Leadership Principles which open the doors to a successful career with the Group, not their passport, ethnic or national origin.

  • Deep knowledge

    of our products

    Deep knowledge of our products

When you want to bring safe & highest quality bottled spring or mineral waters to your consumer, you need to have deep knowledge of where and how to source it, how to protect it as well as the surrounding environment against contamination, how to produce it at the lowest possible cost in order to make it available and affordable to all. In their quest for quality and safety for our consumers, our hydro-geologists, marketers, production and distribution specialists bring together their expertise and acute knowledge of water. Through sourcing of consumer insights, they are able to answer to the consumers’ daily hydration needs and inform them about the importance of hydration. These insights as well as our employees’ passion, commitment and thirst for continuous improvement also enable them to drive product innovation.

  • Teamwork

    Teamwork

At the helm of ensuring availability of water whenever, wherever and however the consumer wants it, are teams of experienced, committed and dedicated people working together to achieve flawless execution. The bottling and distribution of natural mineral & spring water requires great discipline and rigour in order to guarantee the highest level of quality for consumption. Our employees know that these standards cannot be met unless they work together throughout the organisation, sharing and providing their expertise in the various processes which take water from the source to the consumer Teamwork is also behind the development of our younger, less experienced employees. On a daily basis, they benefit from working with other employees who, throughout their career, have built up strong knowledge and experience. This handover approach favours professional growth and contributes to building skills.

  • Pride

    Pride

There is a certain sense of pride that goes with being the hydration component of the Nestlé’s Nutrition, Health & Wellness mission and working with a natural product for an essential human need – Water! Our employees know that they play a major role in implementing our strategy ensuring the quality of our products, contributing to fighting obesity and helping consumers understand the benefits of drinking water. This sets us apart and gives us an advantage compared to other beverages. Our focus on calorie free water is predominant and represents 98% of our portfolio of products. No other beverage company can claim this. This pride is strengthened by the sense of belonging our employees feel in being part a worldwide group which has built its success on strong foundations such as human values and guiding Leadership and Business principles.
