Water ressources conservation

W.A.T.E.R commitments

Conserving water benefits society; at the same time it meets Nestlé Waters’ goals of not sacrificing long-term development for short-term gain. Boasting more than a century of experience, we are acutely aware of the importance of responsible stewardship of water resources. The fact that many of our brands have been in existence for decades speaks for itself: Poland Spring since 1845, Vittel since 1854 and S. Pellegrino since 1899.

Being able to sustain a long-term business is not unlike protecting water resources. We, as a beverage industry, are entirely dependent upon a secure supply of water in sufficient quantity and quality to manufacture our product. Our activities by definition consume water, but we are actually a relatively small user. While our usage is highly visible, Nestlé Waters’ worldwide operations use just 0.0009% per year of total estimated freshwater use.

Yet, as the world’s leading bottled water company, Nestlé Waters is committed to being at the head of the class in water resources management. Our water commitments are long-term guiding principles for improved efficiency and constant stewardship of the resource that lies at the heart of our business. Over the years, we have adopted a systematic approach to water conservation that has led to significant improvements in water efficiency in our plants worldwide.

- Over the last five years (2004-2009) we cut the amount of additional water needed for our industrial operations by 38%.
