Nestlé Announces Collaboration with Environmental Leaders, Fortune 500 Companies to Invest in California’s Water Future

As part of our ongoing commitment to California, Nestlé has helped launch an unprecedented coalition that brings NGOs like The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund and Alliance for Water Stewardship together with multinational corporations in order to protect California’s water future. The California Water Action Collaborative (CWAC) invests in and supports efforts to secure sustainable water resources for communities, the environment, farmers and industry. CWAC members are deeply committed to California and the collaborative has announced an investment in four initial projects critical to California’s water security: 

  • The San Joaquin Valley Farmland Groundwater Recharge project applies excess floodwater to active and idle farmland and allows water percolate down to refill aquifers. 
  • In the Sierra Nevada, the American River Headwaters project will conduct research to determine whether ecological thinning can measurably increase downstream water supply by allowing snowfall and rain to accumulate and replenish creeks and rivers. 
  • The San Gabriel Watershed project is focused on restoring hundreds of millions of gallons of water annually to the damaged San Gabriel Watershed by removing 50 acres of a water intensive invasive species called Arundo donax, or giant cane. 
  • CWAC members and others are supporting the California Water Action Plan by identifying opportunities where the private sector can accelerate progress in water stewardship.

Through these projects, partnerships and other efforts, CWAC is working to collectively advance water security throughout the state. CWAC members include: Ag Capital Management, Ag Innovations, Anheuser-Busch, Alliance for Water Stewardship, Campbell Soup Company, the CEO Water Mandate, The Coca-Cola Company, Driscoll’s, Ecolab, Future 500, General Mills, MillerCoors, The National Forest Foundation, Nestlé, OLAM, Pacific Institute, Sustainable Conservation, Sustainable Food Lab, The Nature Conservancy, and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
